Start or transfer your utility service

Whether you’re new to National Fuel or transferring from another location within our service area, we’ve combined start and transfer requests into simple steps to help save you time. Your first bill may include a one-time connection fee or security deposit based on your credit history.

What you'll need to begin

Have these items ready:

Account number

If you’re an existing customer, your account number

Move-in and move-out dates

Make sure you know the dates you plan to move-in and move-out

Payment method

You’ll need the payment method for any required deposit

New service address

You’ll need the address for the new service as well as contact information

Planning your move: Timing and requirements

New National Fuel customers should submit a start service form seven business days before their move-in date. This lead time gives us an opportunity to verify your meter is ready for activation. For homes with existing natural gas connections, we aim to have service activated within three to seven business days.

You usually don’t need to be home during activation if technicians can safely access your exterior gas meter. If your gas meter is inside or behind a locked gate, we’ll contact you to schedule an access window.

*When you select the button below to submit a start service form, you will be taken to the website for CenterPoint Energy – this is correct. CenterPoint Energy will continue to process these form on behalf of National Fuel for a period of time as we complete our acquisition of their Ohio natural gas utility.
