If you need help paying your heating bills, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) can help. This federally funded program provides assistance to eligible customers. LIHEAP opens on October 18, 2021.
Grant amounts vary from $500 to $1,500 and will be provided only while LIHEAP funding remains available. Apply early because funds are very limited and are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. See the chart below to see if you qualify.
The size of the grant is based upon your income and household size.
Household size | Monthly gross income |
---|---|
1 | $1,610 |
2 | $2,177 |
3 | $2,745 |
4 | $3,312 |
5 | $3,880 |
6 | $4,447 |
*The figures shown are provided as an income-eligibility guide for the 2021-2022 LIHEAP Program and are subject to change. Pennsylvania county assistance offices determine income-eligibility for customers applying for LIHEAP benefits.
Call or visit your local county assistance office. Be sure to apply in the county where you live.
Find a LIHEAP application office by county or you can also apply online. You will need to have the following ready when you apply:
If you are without service or have received a shut-off notice, you may also be eligible for a crisis grant of up to $1,200.
If you are without service and owe a balance, you may apply for a crisis grant from October 18, 2021 to help to have your service restored.
If you are applying for a crisis grant, you will need your shut-off notice or a form from the utility company stating how much is needed in order to have service turned on.
