Michael D. Colpoys has been named president of National Fuel Gas Distribution Corporation, the utility subsidiary of National Fuel Gas Company, succeeding Donna L. DeCarolis who retired today after more than 40 years of service at National Fuel. Colpoys’s responsibilities include oversight for all aspects of the Utility, which provides natural gas service for 2.2 million residents, spanning 26 counties in Western New York and Northwestern Pennsylvania and having nearly 1,600 employees.
“With 38 years of service at National Fuel, Mike is a strong leader with hands-on operational and engineering experience and extensive knowledge of the energy industry,” said David P. Bauer, President and CEO of National Fuel. “His vast expertise helps to ensure that our Utility business runs efficiently, and our customers continue to receive safe, affordable and reliable natural gas service.”
Colpoys has decades of experience in all aspects of operations. He began his career in 1987 as a Management Trainee. In the following years, he was promoted numerous times, advancing in 2015 to Vice President of National Fuel Gas Midstream Company where he oversaw the development, construction and operation of the company’s expanding gathering pipelines. In 2016, he was named Vice President of Distribution Corporation and gained general oversight for the Pennsylvania division and field operations for the Utility and National Fuel Gas Supply Corporation. In 2021, Colpoys was named Senior Vice President for Distribution Corporation, having responsibility for all utility field operations in New York and Pennsylvania as well as Rates and Regulatory Affairs, Energy Services and Gas Supply Administration departments and oversight for supply chain and fleet operations.

Colpoys, a native of Buffalo, NY, has lived in Erie, Pa. for decades working for National Fuel. He is relocating back to the Buffalo area where the Company is headquartered but will continue to maintain an active presence in Erie and throughout the Pennsylvania service territory.
Colpoys received a bachelor’s degree from Clarkson University and a Master of Business Administration from Penn State Behrend. He is actively involved with industry, business and community groups, serving on the boards of Northeast Gas Association, Energy Association of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Chamber, Erie Downtown Development Corporation, Penn State Behrend College of Fellows, the 100 Club of Buffalo and the AGA Policy Council. Colpoys will also be National Fuel’s representative as a member of the board of directors for The Business Council of New York.
