National Fuel Gas Supply Company’s pipeline network and system storage facilities are situated to provide access to Appalachian shale gas production areas as well as pipeline interconnects that access the growing markets in Canada and the Mid-Atlantic regions. Enhanced Storage Service (ESS)

  • Firm storage is available to qualified EFT shippers.
  • In conjunction with the EFT Rate Schedule, this service sets forth the terms and conditions of the “no-notice” transportation service.
  • Withdrawal period commences November 1 and ends April 15. Injection period commences April 1 and ends October 31.
  • Capacity may be released to qualified bidders on a prearranged basis or by posting for bidding.
  • Surface operating allowance is charged on injection and withdrawal.
  • Fuel retention is charged on transportation on injection only.
  • This service is eligible for transfers of storage balance service.

Firm Storage Service (FSS)

Our market area underground storage facilities are readily accessible to the growing Northeast and Mid-Atlantic markets.

  • Unbundled, open access storage is available to all qualified shippers on a firm basis.
  • This service requires FSTITFT or EFT transportation.
  • Customized injection and withdrawal cycles are available.
  • Capacity may be released to qualified bidders on a prearranged basis or by posting for bidding.
  • Surface operating allowance is charged on injection and withdrawal.
  • This service is eligible for transfers of storage balance service.

Interruptible Storage Service (ISS)

  • This unbundled open access storage service is performed on an interruptible basis when and where capacity is available. It requires ITFT or EFT transportation.
  • This is ideal for market hedging during periods in which excess storage is available (inject lower priced gas, withdraw as prices increase).
  • NFGSC may require withdrawal of gas with 30 days’ notice.
  • Fuel retention on transportation and surface operating allowance is charged on injection and withdrawal.
  • Injection charge is discounted on a case-by-case basis.
  • This service is eligible for transfers of storage balance service.

Interruptible Advance Service (IAS)

With our IAS service, shippers can borrow gas for a small fee and return it when prices are favorable and/or when operational conditions allow.

  • This service is a short-term interruptible loan of gas and requires EFT, FT or IT
  • It’s available when NFGSC has excess deliverability from storage.
  • IAS is ideal for avoiding pipeline imbalances, meeting sudden changes in weather or operation, avoiding end-of-month price spikes and for taking advantage of arbitrage opportunities.
  • Fuel retention is charged on transportation on advance only.

110-Day Storage Service (SS-1)

  • This service is provided under FERC section 7(c) authority.
  • It includes firm transportation between storage and specific contract receipt and delivery points.
  • Deliverability from storage (maximum daily withdrawal volume) equals 1/100th of customer’s annual storage volume.
  • Service up to five percent in excess of maximum daily injection and withdrawal volumes is permitted.
  • Withdrawal period commences November 1 and ends March 31. Injection period commences April 1 and ends October 31.
  • Surface operating allowance is charged on injection and withdrawal.

Transfers of Storage Balance

  • Provided operational conditions permit, all or any part of a shipper’s storage balance may be transferred to another shipper’s storage account under the ESS, FSS or ISS rate schedule.
  • Provided operational conditions permit, storage balance transfer may be utilized to make contractually required returns of gas (including allowances) under the IAS rate schedule.
  • A storage balance transfer fee shall apply to both parties, however, no injection charge, withdrawal charge, surcharge or surface operating allowance shall apply.
  • Upon receipt of both parties’ nominations to effectuate the storage balance transfer, both such nominations shall be irrevocable.
