Fueling Local Economies

The natural gas industry is crucial to Pennsylvania’s growth, generating economic impact through impact fees and other taxes, creating family-sustaining jobs, and investing in local businesses that help communities flourish.

Pennsylvania’s Impact Fee

According to the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC), the state’s impact fee generated $164.5 million in 2024, bringing total revenue to over $3 billion since its introduction in 2012. Funds are collected by the PUC from unconventional gas well operators and distributed to counties, municipalities, and state agencies to support local environmental and infrastructure programs.

Education Outreach

Seneca Resources is committed to investing in future generations by enhancing access to learning opportunities and career awareness. The company participates in  Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program and offers a free educational program, Energy Explorers, which explores the natural gas industry and related careers through engaging, hands-on STEAM activities.

EITC Tax Program

Seneca was accepted into the EITC program in 2023 and was approved to make annual donations of $140,000 in both 2024 and 2025.

As a result, Seneca awarded 141 scholarships to students at 10 schools across eight counties.

  • $20,000 for pre-K scholarships
  • $80,000 for K-12 scholarships

Seneca also allocated $40,000 to Educational Improvement Projects in 2025, including a Mobile Energy Learning Unit, STEAM Camps, and after-school programming.

Seneca’s contributions also helped bring a Mobile “Ag Lab” to several elementary schools, giving students a unique opportunity to learn about Pennsylvania agriculture.

Energy Explorers is Seneca Resources’ hands-on STEAM education program designed to spark curiosity and build real-world understanding of energy and the natural gas industry. The free program delivers interactive lessons, demonstrations, and age-appropriate activities to classrooms, libraries, and community centers within Seneca’s operating area.
